The History Museum of Los Gatos' planned permanent exhibition, "The Story of Los Gatos," featuring Los Gatos history, is making progress, the organization announced recently on its website.

Once it opens at 75 Church St., the exhibit will allow townsfolk and the public to witness history in the making through a three-phase project.

As the exhibition is developed over the next few years, the stories of Los Gatos will be interpreted through images, artifacts, and stories from the Museum collection, the museum said on its website.

The exhibit's first part will consist of an "Introduction to Los Gatos," giving visitors the pivotal events and people in town history, from the creation of the railroad to the beginnings of Silicon Valley.

Select artifacts, images, and personal stories will also interpret the community’s unique storyline and how it fits into greater California History.

The project's second part, "Hands-On History," will consist of iconic museum collection objects integrated into the Los Gatos story and timeline.

This phase will include interactive models, touchable objects and new media will facilitate the telling of the town's story, the museum said.

The project's third part, "Community History Gallery," will ask visitors the question: "What does Los Gatos mean to you?"

The gallery will be devoted to telling townsfolk personal stories and histories.

Visitors will map their stories and memories in the museum's community memory map. They will also record them, in writing or audibly, in the museum's interactive StoryShare station.

The gallery will also include a Los Gatos family tree that tells the ongoing story of the innovators, workers, and investors who shaped the town's history, the museum said.

The museum is open noon-4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Weekend hours vary according to docent availability.
