The holiday season comes to a close this week with the New Year 2014 arriving Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Prepare for New Year's Eve

Now that all of your purchasing, gift-giving and receiving has been completed, it’s time to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. If you still need to stock up on last-minute New Year’s Eve supplies, check out Walgreens at 14100 Blossom Hill Road or 423 N. Santa Cruz Ave.

Los Gatos Fantasy of Lights

6 p.m. Dec. 31

Tuesday marks the final night of the 15th annual Fantasy of Lights Drive-thru Holiday Lights show at Vasona Lake Park, 333 Blossom Hill Rd., in Los Gatos. The event is sponsored by The Santa Clara County Department of Parks and Recreation and is said to be the premier largest holiday lights spectacular in Northern California. Casino New Year’s Eve Party

Dec. 31 at 8:30 p.m.

Los Gatos Lodge is hosting this Las Vegas-style event at 50 Los Gatos-Saratoga Road. The event, open to ages 21 and older, will include Black Jack, craps, roulette and poker. Food, drinks, prizes, dancing and a champagne toast at midnight will round out the evening’s festivities. Tickets are $70 at the door. For details, call 408-219-1718 or 408-650-5356.

 

Los Gatos Resolution Run

January 1 at 9 a.m. 

The annual 5-mile run starts takes participants from the Los Gatos High School track out to Lexington Dam and back and is open to runners of all ages and abilities. The event is presented by Athletic Performance and the Los Gatos Athletic Association. Entry fee is $40 with a commemorative shirt, and $30 without a shirt. Proceeds benefit Los Gatos High School. Town Services Back in Action

January 2 

While Dec. 25 brought Santa into many local homes, on Jan. 2 the mayor will be back in office along with the rest of Town Hall workers at 110 E. Main St., Los Gatos. Public safety services have been operating through the break holiday break so thank a policemen or firefighter the next time you see one.

 

Woodshed Song Circle

7 p.m. Jan. 2

Do you have a song to share? This monthly song circle is hosted by Bay Area songwriters Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon inside Keith Holland Guitars at 16905 Roberts Road, Los Gatos. Something like an open mic without the mic, this is a casual, supportive place to share original songs - or even favorite and often obscure songs written by others. Participation fee is $10, but can be waived by participants who bring along at least one listener. 

 

SUNDAY FARMERS MARKET

8 a.m. Jan. 5
Look for fresh seasonal organic and non-organic winter vegetables, specialty foods and fresh-cut flowers at the Los Gatos Farmers Market, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5 at Los Gatos Town Plaza, Main Street and Santa Cruz Avenue.  Admission is free. For details call 408-353-4293.

ART IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS NEW EXHIBIT
The Town of Los Gatos and the Museums of Los Gatos have partnered on a new exhibit showcasing renowned Bay Area artists' works of part of the program through Jan. 30, 2014. The program, which has been going on for 13 years, normally presents four exhibits in the chambers, 110 E. Main St., with an evening artist reception being held for each show. The first exhibit features more than 50 artists currently appearing in the Los Gatos Museums Gallery. Details: 408-354-6834.
