Reader's Photos: Los Gatos Boy Scout Troop 501 Presents Colors at Fourth of July Celebration

Thanks to Barbara Raaymakers for sending in these photos and to Alexandra Mena for educating us about the history of BSA Troop 501.

Los Gatos Patch reader Barbara Raaymakers sent these pictures of Boy Scout Troop 501 presenting the Colors during the town's Fourth of July celebration on the Los Gatos High School's front lawn Monday afternoon.

Raaymakers and reader Alexandra Mena wanted to find some way to recognize the troop for the awesome job it did in adding what they considered the most patriotic part of the festivities.

"The boys were wearing red berets and white gloves. Beautiful. They lead the Pledge of Allegiance and then the National Anthem was played by the San Jose Wind Symphony. Precious!" Mena wrote in an email.

Originally chartered as Troop 2 in April, 1918, Troop 501 is the oldest continuously operated Boy Scout troop in Santa Clara County, according to its Web site.

Its charter organization, the, has sponsored Troop 501 since 1924. The troop is run by its boys leaders, who plan the program, conduct troop meetings and provide peer leadership, the site said.
