Reader's Photos: Lions Support Los Gatos Football

Thanks to Carol Musser for sending us these great photos of the wonderful volunteer spirit exhibited by the Los Gatos Lions Club members, who run the Los Gatos High School snack shack concession stand and feed the Wildcats after home games

The has been busy since football season started and Los Gatos High School hosted its first opening game.

Club members, who run the school's snack shack concession stand, began serving the community during the Wildcats' opening home game Sept. 16, when they defeated Oak Grove by a 20-13 score.

The team, under the direction of Coach Butch Cattolico, was hungry and the Lions were there to feed the the Wildcats a succulent barbecue dinner second to none.

“We run the snack shack concessions year round at ,” says Los Gatos Lions Club President Craig Hulse. “If anything is going on at the track or football field, we’re there.”

In addition to giving 30 percent of snack shack proceeds to the Los Gatos High School Athletic program, all earnings are used to support the community, including funding annual LGHS scholarships for graduating seniors.

According to Los Gatos Lions Club spokeswoman Carol Musser, the organization began running the snack shack in the late '90s.

At that time the building behind the high school was built to accommodate the football team's needs and a new concession was built.

Joe Zanardi was instrumental in the beginning with the help of Gary Stern and other club members, Musser said.

"The Lions felt they could do a good job of running the concession and raising money for the high school, the Los Gatos Athletic Association and Lions Club charities," she added.

The Lions completely volunteer their time, manage and staff the concession and have continually made improvements by adding equipment and providing great food, she said.

The Lions also operate the snack shack for all the track and All Comers meets at the high school, and other special sporting events.

The job requires the Lions to order products, staff the stand, and  prepare for events.

"It takes many Lions to make this happen," Musser indicated, adding that the Lions also volunteer for the "Chain Gang" at each home game. The volunteers work the side lines with the yardage markers.
