Los Gatos 2011 Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

The holidays are not complete without some kind of service or act of charity and the Town of Los Gatos has put together a nice list of nonprofit organizations encouraging residents to give of their time and talents to bless those in need.
Sunday Friends is a Los Gatos-based nonprofit organization that collects basic necessities such as toiletries, school supplies, kitchen supplies, etc. for families in need all year. The families earn and select the essentials that allow them to make ends meet and stay in housing while they build the skills needed for long-term self-sufficiency. Salvation Army's Angel Giving Tree Program
The Los Gatos Town Employee Foundation is hosting a Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree this holiday season. The public can stop by the town clerk's office to pick up a wish tag from the Giving Tree and shop for a specific child, or simply drop off an unwrapped toy at either Town Hall or the . Calvary Church of Los Gatos is hosting a holiday season military family adoption program to help about 50 previously identified military families who need extra help this holiday season. Many of them have a husband or wife serving our country oversees. Donations will be used to purchase $100 gift cards for the families. Details: Jon Olson, jolson@calvarylg.com.
The Family Giving Tree is sponsoring a holiday donation drive to benefit local, under privileged children. You can help by either donating to fulfill a specific child's wish, or by hosting a holiday wish drive with your organization. Details: elf@familygivingtree.org, or 408-946-3111.
About 10 volunteers and donations are needed to help brighten the holiday season for seniors. They deliver holiday gifts, wrap gifts at Barnes & Noble Westgate and Stevens Creek stores. Details: Kirby Cristobal, 408-241-1571.
Volunteers help abuse survivors during the winter holidays. Families in need are matched with donors who provide gift certificates and other items to brighten their holidays and buy vital daily necessities such as a modest meal, small items for children and occasionally pet food. West Valley Community Services
This New and unwrapped items for children ages 0-18 are needed. Toys can include puzzles, games, dolls, action figures and learning and educational materials. Other gifts can be umbrellas, home electronics, small appliances, school supplies, day planners. Clothing needed are jackets, rain coats, socks, underwear, knit caps, gloves, scarves, sweaters. Other things that can be donated are household items such as alarm clocks, personal heaters, towels, blankets, bedding, toothbrushes, tooth paste, lotion, hair dryers, brushes, combs and hair products.
