Pajamas in Public, Ban or Ignore?

Lawmaker seeks to ban pajamas in public, give me a break!

I never thought I would see the day when I became a supporter of the Slobbinization of America, but after hearing about a commissioner in Louisiana seeking to ban pajamas worn in public I had to ease up my attitude about folks who shop in their jammies.

The commissioner’s proposed criteria for differentiating pajamas from non-pajamas would be the department the clothes were purchased from. I can see it now, the PJ Police, pulling guys over to check if their fly has a zipper. What will be next? The bra police where women will be cited for not wearing a bra? I bet there would be cops lining up for that duty!

As a freedom-loving American and one who fantasizes about being locked in Nicole Kidman's closet for a day, I am no longer offended by others wearing their jammies to the mall. What I am offended at is the fact that we have record unemployment rates, huge deficits, and homeless yet peon lawmakers are worried about folks wearing cupcake-patterned pants and fuzzy footwear.

At the gym where I belong, people are barely dressed, stuff hanging out front, back, up and down, nobody even takes a second glance. Last summer I visited Laguna Beach where women were shopping in art galleries wearing skimpy swimsuit tops and low-rise shorts with two-inch inseams.

I say if you don’t like it, don’t look. I would not personally choose to wear pajamas in public, but if someone chooses to, it’s their business. Now, if one just can’t pull themselves together enough to get out of their plaid fleece bottoms for a court appearance, well then, all I can say is good luck.

So, are you offended at this new trend, or, as a business owner, would you ask somebody to leave your shop for wearing their pajamas?
