Speed Limit Lowered on Los Gatos Blvd
Busy University Avenue is now 25 miles per hour and Marchmont Drive is officially 15 miles per hour.
An engineering and traffic survey conducted by town officials has reduced the speed limit on Los Gatos Boulevard, from Alpine Avenue to Roberts East Road, where it will now be 25 miles per hour.
Previously, the busy boulevard's speed limit jumped to 35 miles per hour northbound at Spencer Avenue. The change, according to interim Parks and Public Works Director Bob Kass provides for slower speeds in the vicinity of Van Meter Elementary and Fisher Middle schools.
Also, University Avenue will continue to be 25 mph, from Mullen Avenue to Blossom Hill Road and then 20 mph from Main Street to Mullen Avenue.
Marchmont Drive, from Hilow Road to east end, is now officially 15 mph. The street is heavily used by parents with children at Hillbrook School.
Knowles Drive from Winchester Boulevard to Dell Avenue is currently without a posted speed limit. Based on the speed survey results, the recommended posted speed limit would be 30 mph, consistent with the posted speed limits on Dell Avenue in the City of Campbell, according to Kass.
On Nov. 4, the Council amended a section of the town code establishing speed limits on certain streets.
The Council also directed staff to study two streets for possible future speed limit changes; continuing the 25 mph limit on Los Gatos Boulevard between Roberts and Blossom Hill roads and continuing the 20 mph limit on University Avenue between Mullen and Saratoga-Los Gatos Road, or Highway 9 and possibly up to Blossom Hill Road.
The changes will go into effect 30 days, or mid December of 2013.

- Marchmont Drive, from Hilow Road to east end
- North Santa Cruz Avenue, from Main Street to Los Gatos - Saratoga Road
The following streets are now 20 miles per hour:
- Bella Vista Avenue, from New York Avenue to Caldwell Avenue
- Cleland Avenue, from Reservoir Road to Kimble Avenue
- College Avenue, from East Main Street to Prospect Avenue
- Cypress Way, from Spring Street to east end
- Foster Road, from Johnson Avenue to south Town limits
- Jackson Street, from Oak Hill Way to Central Avenue
- Kennedy Road, from 1, 900 feet east of Forrester Road to east Town limits
- Kimble Avenue, from Cleland Avenue to Prospect Avenue
- Phillips Avenue, from Cypress Way to South Kennedy Road
- Reservoir Road, from Cleland Avenue to Prospect Avenue
- University Avenue from Main Street to Mullen Avenue
- Villa Avenue, from Jackson Street to Fiesta Way
