The opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics in London took place at 1 p.m. Friday, California time, but it wasn't until primetime .
Some us don't have to wait, however. Live streaming is available online through NBC's Live Extra, if you have a cable subscription that includes CNBC and MSNBC. Sign up is required to access the service, which is free of charge.
Here's how it works:
1. Click on the red button under "Watch the Olympics Live" on the Live Extra website.
2. When prompted, select your cable, satellite or telco TV provider (e.g. Comcast, Time Warner, DirecTV, AT&T) from a list.
3. Verify your TV subscription by entering the username/password corresponding to the online account you established with your provider.
