Los Gatos youth Evan Vemury, 13, an eighth-grader at Union Middle School, took Silver at USA Taekwondo Nationals in Chicago, IL July 3-8.
Evan is a student of Master Suh, TAEMA Studio in San Jose and he competed during the six-day tournament at Chicago’s McCormick Place.
“This week clearly demonstrated the positive direction in which this sport is moving,” said USAT Interim CEO Bruce Harris.
Evan, who's a black belt, had to compete at a 2013 USAT state championship to be eligible to compete at the USAT national championships.
He was featured by Los Gatos Patch in November of 2011 with a Whiz Kid of the Week article, which highlighted his accomplishments as a musician and athlete.
Under his key to awesomeness, he wrote: "I'm lucky to have a neat family and great teachers. I would remind people to try new things and do their best. Also, I've got to say that having pets is one of my favorite things as they inspire me and help me be creative!" wrote this whiz kid after being nominated for this honor by several friends.
