Although the waves haven't yet reached their desired height for the famous Mavericks, big-wave surf contest, organizers have announced a multi-year title sponsorship agreement with surf brand Body Glove.

Contest founder Jeff Clark said the partnership will heighten enthusiasm and increase awareness about big-wave surfing and the surf competition itself, which will now be called the Body Glove Mavericks Invitational.

"Bringing two brands together with such a deep-rooted history in surfing just amps up the energy and creativity around this event," Clark said.

This year's opening ceremony will take place Oct. 25, when there will be a ceremonial "paddle out."

The window for the 2013-2014 Body Glove Mavericks Invitational opens Nov. 1 and closes March 31, 2014.

The one-day event will bring to the shores of Half Moon Bay 24 expert surfers and a ton of fanfare.

The two-dozen chosen surfers are those most skilled from around the world and will be given as little as 24 hours' notice to arrive at the coast ready to compete.

The contest is held about half a mile off the coast of Half Moon Bay at the Mavericks break.

Known as one of the most dangerous breaks on earth, the giant swells of Mavericks are legendary.
