Vivian Martin Is New Principal of Los Gatos' Van Meter Elementary School

Seasoned educator replaces retiring principal Rosanne Adona.

The leader of Forest Park Elementary in the Fremont Unified School District has been appointed as the new principal of Louise Van Meter Elementary School, 16445 Los Gatos Blvd., in Los Gatos.

She replaces Rosanne Adona, who retired this past June after serving as principal at the school for 18 years.

She will begin her official duties on Aug. 1 at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year.

Martin has been working with children as a principal for the past 13 years in FUSD, said Los Gatos Union School District Superintendent Diana Abbati.

As an educator, Martin implemented the use of formative assessments to establish small learning communities to ensure students received vital academic, social, and emotional skills that target the development of the whole child, Abbati said in a letter written to district parents, teacher and staff to make the announcement.

"... Vivian is motivated to build a culture of shared leadership by empowering staff, listening, coaching, inspiring, and actively inviting participation," Abbati said.

One of her co-workers at FUSD spoke highly of her stating, “Vivian is a dynamic instructional leader. She is able to view situations and problems from multiple perspectives and is committed to creating a learning environment that is reflective of 21st century learning skills. She is a very active and contributing member of the community and demonstrates the qualities of collaboration, compassion, and commitment.”

Martin holds a master's degree in education from Azusa Pacific University and two bachelor's degrees from the University of Idaho and Boise State University.

She has gone through numerous trainings including the Common Core Standards and Smarter Balanced Assessment Training, Instructional Rounds, Cycle of Inquiry, Equity Training, Six Traits Writing, Step Up to Writing, and Guided Language Acquisition Design, according to Abbati.
