Santa Clara Countywide High School Art Competition Now Under Way

Deadline to submit artwork with the theme of 'Response: Art is a Conversation' is Feb. 14, 2014.

Organizers want area students in grades 9-12 to submit work that contemplates the idea that art is a conversation.

Applications are now open. Click here for a PDF version of the brochure. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Feb. 14, 2014.

A jury of three university-level artist-educators will select works to be included in the exhibition.

More than 425 entries were submitted last year, with 74 pieces shown to the public at the Los Gatos Art Museum, 4 Tait Ave.

Professional-development scholarships totaling $10,000 will be awarded in several categories, according to organizers.

In addition to Best in Show and People’s Choice, there will be first- and second-place winners in six categories: painting, photography, drawings/prints, new media, mixed media, and 3D sculpture/ceramics.

For each student selected to exhibit their artwork, a $5 gift will be given to their art instructors to be used for classroom art supplies.

Awards will be announced at the opening reception on April 24, 2014. People’s Choice voting takes place online and in the gallery and will be announced after the exhibition closes.
