OPINION: Wildcats Are CCS Division II Champions

Coach Cattolico's weekly report on the Los Gatos Wildcats football team.

Los Gatos was down but not quite out at the half time buzzer last Saturday night.

The boys had what looked like a long road to travel going into the third quarter of play against the Mustangs.

We had a tough talk in the locker room, and these kids knew they had to step it up if they were going to pull this one off.

They played the second half like they had played their prior six games, every body taking their role seriously.

I think the boys realized they had come too far to give it up. We had strong performances again by Garret Zeiter and Shane Smith.

But really, the team as a whole did a great job, we could not have done it without everyone of these boys. They really wanted this one, and it showed in the second half.

We had 338 rushing yards this game, second only to the Monta Vista game—a much weaker team.

We had four sacks, and 78 combined—tackles and assistant tackles.

Zeiter came through again scoring four TD's—once in the first half, and once in the third quarter. He put up two in the fourth quarter.

Chapman was successful on four PATs.

The final score was 28-21.

This being a championship game, there was a lot of great press. A lot of names contributed, their contributions are noted in the interviews with the press.

Some of the boys were also interviewed at the half, and then again at the end of the game. They were very emotional and very excited.

The interviews by our local papers, and articles from other newspapers and publications are all reposted on the losgatosfootball.com website.

We didn't get everybody in this game, but during the season there were several games where all played—and all made a difference. I am proud of all of them.

Los Gatos High School Athletics, the coaches, players and I want to thank all of the volunteers; those on and off the field—this season that have helped put everything together—before the season, during it, and after. It doesn't just start with the first game and end with the championship.

Thanks to the administration, teachers, fans and community. And especially, thanks to the parents for supporting your sons, and their commitment to the team.
