Los Gatos Schools Rank Highest in Statewide Testing

Four school districts within town boundaries have campuses scoring in the top 10 percent.

All Los Gatos schools have scored in the top 10 percent statewide, according to the California Department of Education’s 2010 base Academic Performance Index data released Thursday.

All schools earned scores in the 900s, which places them in the 10th decile, the highest-ranking tier.

scored 871 and is three rankings higher than other similar schools. It had 1,251 students take the test but scored two points lower than last year.

Superintendent Cary Matsuoka of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District praised students and staff on the successful results.

“I am really proud of our student achievement and our API scores,” Matsuoka said. "While the testing is just one way of measuring achievement for schools, we are proud of the success of the students. We attribute the success to the students’ willingness to grow and learn and the great curriculum and instruction of our teachers.”

with its only school, Lakeside Elementary, scored 963, which is 10 points higher than 2009 . The school had 57 students take the test.

tested 163 students and scored a 947, which is 17 points higher. And C.T. English Middle School scored a 925, an 11-point climb. It had 151 students take the test.

scored a base average of 921 with 2,247 students taking the test. The 2010-2011 score is two points lower than last year’s score; however, 99 more students were tested.

led the district with a score of 956 and 437 students participating, two points up from last year, and is placed three rankings higher than other similar schools.

Schools are graded on a scale of 200-1,000 points possible on the API. 

"[API scores are] constructive information that provides parents, schools, educators and the general public valuable insight into how schools are performing when measured against others," said California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson.
