Los Gatos Patch Whiz Kid—Sabera Talukder

This outstanding young woman is one of 15 youths or teams from around the world who are finalists in the Google Science Fair competition.

School: Junior at Los Gatos High School

Accomplishments:

  • 4.5 Academic GPA (including honors and AP classes)
  • 4.0 GPA, Principal scholar,
  • Member California Junior Scholarship Federation
  • August 2002-June 2007: delivered one of three graduation speeches at Louise Van Meter Elementary School
  • Sept 2011-present: president and founder of the LGHS Language Outreach Club; meets virtually, bi-monthly with foreign students to improve their English skills
  • Feb 2010-present: American Cancer Society Discovery Shop, Los Gatos;
    shop volunteer, founder and organizer of the annual “Back to School Sale”

Synopsys Science and Technology Championship 2012:

  • 1st Place Award in Engineering Category,
  • 1st Prize Award by Morgan Lewis Patent Lawyers,
  •  Special Award from the Wireless Communication Alliance,

  • Silver Medal in Age Group 11-12 Synchronized Swimming Team Routine:     e-Synchro National Championships, June 2007; OH
  • Member of the Open Choir (1 year) and then the Audition Choir (2 years) at R.J. Fisher

Key to Awesomeness:

Sabera's second-grade teacher, Alisha Shushan, articulated a meaningful compliment for each of her students to highlight their special characteristics and said this about this whiz kid: "You can always count on Sabera."

"I think that she was right and it still holds true today," said proud mom Darlene Talukder. "Sabera is very hard working, focused and always delivers. When you combine that work ethic with smarts and talent in a young person you never know what success they might be able to achieve."
