Los Gatos Patch Whiz Kid of the Week—Valmik Prabhu

'Keep dreaming! One of these days you are going to succeed where no one else has!' wrote this whiz kid's father about his son's thinking 'outside the box.'

  • Excels academically while taking on a number of challenging AP and honors classes
  • Last month, he achieved his goal of getting a black belt in Tae-Kwon Do
  • Participates in FTC and FRC Robotics competitions through the programs at Pioneer and Santa Teresa high schools in San Jose
  • First viola in the Los Gatos High Orchestra
  • Founder of the Gaming Club at Los Gatos High School
  • Participates actively in science, mathematics and mock trial clubs in school

Key to Awesomeness:

Valmik wants to "do everything" and participates actively in a number of academic and extra-curricular activities, according to proud father Venke Sankaran. "How he manages to fit everything in within 24 hours is a mystery to us all," dad said.

Valmik is also outgoing, a natural leader and an excellent mentor for young kids, which he enjoys doing at tae-kwon do and summer camps, notably at Walden West, dad said.

"Valmik is a creative thinker with a penchant for thinking out of the box (much to the chagrin of his parents and teachers) Ever since he was young, he had a curious mind that constantly dreamt of impossible things," dad added.
