Los Gatos' Loma Prieta School District Mulls Parcel Tax

Tax on Nov. 5 ballot would raise $377,350 annually to support a variety of educational programs.

Trustees for the Loma Prieta Joint Union Elementary School District in the Los Gatos Mountains held a meeting Wednesday evening to consider a parcel tax to be submitted for voter approval on Nov. 5.

The tax would not exceed $200 per household per year and would have an estimated annual collection of $377,350 annually to support a variety of educational programs, the district said in a a public notice about the meeting.

The funds would support retaining qualified and experienced teachers, keeping schools safe and clean, maintaining a high quality core academic education, including reading, writing, math, and science, continuing a well-rounded education that includes Spanish, art, PE and other educational enrichment programs, according to the notice.

It would also help maintain up to date computers and technology, small class sizes and guarantee an exemption for certain seniors, the notice added.

The district, headquartered at 23800 Summit Rd., educates approximately 360 K-8 students in Loma Prieta Elementary School (K-5), and C.T. English Middle School.
