Los Gatos Celebrates 'Read Across America'

Rotarians among many volunteers in town reading in local school classrooms in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday today.

are among several community leaders who are joining the rest of the nation to encourage children to learn and read—read well—in the annual Read Across America event.

The volunteers were seen at all Los Gatos schools celebrating the birthday of renowned children's writer Dr. Suess and they read classics like the “The Cat in the Hat,"Green Eggs and Ham" and other of his books to the youngsters.

This is what he wrote: "So what is the future of reading, and what are our responsibilities to influence the outcome? Modern studies of childhood development uniformly agree on the tremendous neural and psychological benefits of reading to children from a very young age, and of instilling the love of reading for when they are able to do so on their own."

In other parts of the state, the event is organized in part by the California Teachers Association.
