Los Gatos Beats Leigh in Opening Round of CCS Playoffs

Cats face Aragon High School football team Friday evening at Helm Field in CCS semi-final.

Los Gatos renewed the rivalry with the Leigh High School Longhorns on Friday at Helm Field in the opening round of the CCS playoffs.

The Cats led 35-0 midway through the second half, with Garret Zeiter scoring five touchdowns on 12 carries.

Garret became a spectator at that point.

Leigh struggled to move the ball vs. our defense. They play the spread offense ... and logic dictates that if you have five players in the box (on the immediate line of scrimmage) you run the ball.

Leigh did just that, but they forgot that Shane Smith was one of the five players.

Smith, with the help of our foursomes of ends and D-lineman, all played well and stopped the run—thus stopping and shutting out the Longhorns.

The second half belonged to the reserves, many of whom got valuable playoff experience. Every one got to play and although Leigh had more success running the ball, with Smith not in there, we continued to play well and move the football.

Brent McCoy intercepted a pass and ran it back 75 yards, and Bryan Rose had another strong passing game as did receivers Teddy Enfantino and Jake Bevans.

The Cats played well winning by a 62-14 score, but are are cognizant of the fact that we will have to play even better this week as we meet a strong and talented Aragon team in the semi-finals.

The game will be played at Helm Field on Friday night at 7 p.m.

This will mark the first home game on Thanksgiving weekend since Turkey Day game day in 1977 vs. Campbell High ... yes, I coached in that game, too.

Thanks for all the support, and have a great Thanksgiving. We hope you can make the game Friday night.
