Fall Into Los Gatos Saratoga Recreation

Fun and informational Los Gatos-Saratoga recreation classes have begun.

The benefits of recreation are endless, and taking a class through is one sure fire way to increase happiness, reduce stress, get to know new friends in the community and learn something exciting and different.

There are plenty of new programs offered—but you have to hurry, classes started in early August. Register online at www.lgsrecreation.org.

Here are a few new fall programs found in the agency's new 68-page fall guide.

For kids:

Parent Cooperative Nursery schools offer balanced, developmentally appropriate curriculums led by credentialed teachers. Children ages 2.5 to 5 years may attend one to four classes per week, depending on their age. Times vary. The schools are in partnership with 's Adult Education Division and LGS Recreation.

  • Saratoga Parent Nursery School, 20490 Williams Ave., in Saratoga.
  • is also enrolling this fall for children ages 3.7 to six years.

Parent and child classes are also available. Some like the Baby Signs parent workshop, which begin Sept. 26, are offered for a $35 fee. There is also the Bug Ball Little Beetle Indoor soccer class for $79.

Fitness and Nutrition Bootcamp, which begins Oct. 13, costs $199.

The catalog also contains a discovery section with a myriad youth programs such as music classes for children ages 5-9 and driver's education for youth ages 14.5 and up.

Ther's also a section called "cooking with kids." The classes cater to children as young as 5, to as old as 13. Bernadette Reed is the instructor. Most of the cooking classes take place in the kitchen and will be teach how to make Halloween treats and Thanksgiving delights.

Adults:

There are many dance classes for children and adults. Some classes began Sept. 19, but others begin in October and some in November. Check the guide for specific information.

Adults can also take several language classes such as Chinese, French, Italian, Persian-Farsi, Spanish and Russian. They can also delve into business and computer lessons. There are special classes for adults older than 55, too.

Instruction in elder law, long-term care planning, financial workshops for women older than 55, mortgages, what lenders don't tell you and others is also available.

Adults can also enjoy art and design classes such as acrylic/oil painting, calligraphy, drawing, glassworks, jewelry repair, photography, silver clay jewelry, watercolor, culinary arts, home and garden and nature trips and fitness, to name a few.

Teens:

There are Aikido for Teens classes, archery, badminton, billiards, hip hop, outdoor rock climbing, SAT/ACT seminars, sewing, strength and posture and wilderness survival skills. There are also a variety of sports classes.
