Bay Area Debate Academy is opening a new Speech/Debate class on Saturdays from 10 to 11:30am to prepare students for B Burnett speech tournament in November, as well as teach Student Congress format debate.
This is the first course in our ongoing Debate Class Series, is a mock legislative session. Students are assigned to debate pre‐assigned "bills" or "resolutions." Previous topics have included video games, school uniforms, cell phones, juvenile justice, presidential pardon power, fast food and wild mustang roundups. Students will be held to a higher standard of behavior and decorum than many of the members of Congress.
Students will improve their ability to: Analyze debatable issues. Research topics. Organize ideas. Make thoughtful, engaging, and clear presentations. Listen actively and take thorough notes. Refute arguments of their opponents. Students learn team building as they discover the difference between simply arguing and the rules and procedures of debate.
Congressional Debate is a prerequisite for all other forms of debate including Intermediate, Advanced and Competitive Debate.

This class will be once a week on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30pm, in Los Gatos
