The clear intent of our Speech & Debate programs is to prepare students to compete in Middle and High School tournaments held in the Bay Area and nation.
As there is more than one format being used students will be prepared for the type of debate and speeches done in their area.
During our Speech & Debate courses, students will learn public speaking, cross examination, basic research, and critical thinking in order to construct a set of arguments to defend their position.
At this time we have small group classes:
Saturday 10:00-11:30 - Lincoln/Dauglas debate, preporation for Septeber and October tournaments.
Saturday 1:30-3:00pm -Public Forum debate.
Saturday 11:45- 1:15 Deabet for 5-7 graders
Saturday 11:45-1:15 Speech/Writing class for elementary school students.
Saturday 10:00-11:30am -Writing for middle school students.
Saturday 1:30 - 3pm speech classes
The director of Young Genius Speech & Debate program Don Heinsohn began his own career in debate in 1971. Since 1985, when he first began coaching debate, he has worked with numerous State and National Finalists and Champions in a variety of events. Mr. Heinsohn holds the title of a Triple Diamond Coaching Award from the National Forensics League. Mr. Heinsohn holds a degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara and has a teaching credential from Humbolt State University.
