State Assemblymen Endorse Arellano for Mayor

Assemblymen Luis Alejo, Bill Monning and Paul Fong are endorsing the City of Gilroy councilman.

City of Gilroy Councilman Peter Arellano has already secured financial backing from prominent politicians at the state level,  less than a month ago.

Assemblymen Luis Alejo, Bill Monning and Paul Fong are endorsing the Kaiser Permanente physician, and more support is expected to follow, according to Arellano's campaign communications representative, Vince D. Monroy.

"The strong endorsements are just the first of many endorsements expected by California representatives for the mayoral candidate," Monroy wrote in a prepared statement released Wednesday.

Monning represents the 27th Assembly District, which includes portions of Monterey, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties, while Fong represents the 22nd district, covering Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Cupertino and portions of Santa Clara and San Jose.

Assemblyman Alejo covers the 28th District, which includes Watsonville, South Santa Clara County, including Gilroy, the Salinas Valley and San Benito and Monterey counties.

Arellano is the lone democrat in the mayoral race running against Republicans Dion Bracco and water district board member Don Gage.

Councilman Perry Woodward was also a contender in the mayoral race, but the day after Arellano announced his entry. Woodward is running for re-election to the city council and is endorsing Gage.

The main issues Arellano would tackle as Gilroy's mayor include preserving farm land, developing downtown and investing in green energy and research. To learn more about Arellano's goals, read .

As a physician Dr. Arellano knows that obstructing "safe & legal access" to cannabis patients is callous & egregious abuse of authority by elected officials who took an oath to uphold state law. As a politician we can depend on him to deal with this contentious issue in a thoughtful & compassionate manner. That's just one of the many reasons why you should join with your friends & neighbors to elect Dr. Peter Arellano to the Board of Supervisors !!! Now that's a prescription we can fill !!!
