Previously, the department's walk-in hours were 7 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and its old phone hours were 7 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

According to Bob Kass, interim Parks and Public Works Director, the primary reason for the change was to align PPW hours with those of the Community Development Department, Finance Department and the Engineering Division of Parks and Public Works, which all have walk in hours 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

One of the benefits of the change for the public is that the department will now be open for walk in business noon-1 p.m. as it was previously closed for lunch at that time, Kass said.

The new hours are being implemented as a “pilot program” and will be reviewed in six months, Kass added.

Only a few people walk into the PPW Service Center on a daily basis, mainly for tree permits or parks reservation information, he said.

Staff does not anticipate any inconvenience to the public, as total hours of availability (phone plus counter) will not change.

The Los Gatos Town Council was advised of the change which was also noticed on the town's website and with postings at PPW and Town Civic Center Offices.
