Los Gatos Earns 'D' For Tobacco Control

Town earns poor grades from American Lung Association annual report in areas of smoke-free housing and reducing sales of tobacco products; earns 'C' grade for smoke-free outdoor air.

Los Gatos has earned a "D" grade for its tobacco control efforts, according to the latest report card issued by the American Lung Association. 

However, for providing smoke-free outdoor air, the town received a "C" grade. 

Out of 12 total points possible on the association's 2014 report card overall grade, Los Gatos received 2, thus the D grade.

In the report card's smoke-free outdoor air, Los Gatos received a "C" or 10 total points, scoring four out of four possible points for dining, two out of four for public events and four out of four for recreation areas.

In the smoke-free housing category, the town received an "F" grade scoring zero points for non-smoking units, non-smoking common areas, disclosure, nuisance and Housing Authority units.

Similarly, in the area of reducing sales of tobacco products, Los Gatos scored an "F" grade getting zero points for tobacco retailer licensing effors, sales near schools and parks, sales in pharmacies and sampling of tobacco products.
