Los Gatos Celebrates National Poetry Month

Town will have three poetry readings next month, one will be open mic at Great Bear Coffee & Cafe.

Mayor Joe Pirzynski declared April as National Poetry Month in the town of Los Gatos Monday evening.

During Town Council meeting, Pirzynski presented a proclamation to Los Gatos poet laureate Parthenia M. Hicks saying the celebration hopes to highlight the ongoing achievement of local poets and introduce people to the pleasure of reading poetry.

As part of the festivities, Poetry Los Gatos, a group lead by Hicks, will present three free public poetry readings.

Hicks said as part of the month-long observance, Los Gatos students would be reading poetry, which will be filmed and run on K-CAT 15 in April and May.

AN EVENING OF ART, POETRY AND MUSIC 

When: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7

Where:, 208 E. Main St.

What: An evening to view and celebrate the work of Los Gatos artists followed by a reading from the Poetry Los Gatos poets.


POETRY AND THE ART OF KATE CURRY

When: 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19

Where: Los Gatos Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St.

What: Poetry Los Gatos will read poems inspired by the work of Los Gatos artist, Kate Curry, who will then respond to the poets. 

OPEN MIC

Featuring Poet Laureate Parthenia M. Hicks

When: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26

Where: , 19 N. Santa Cruz Ave. 

What: Open to poets, writers, and non-writers. Everyone is invited to read a poem of their own or read one of their favorite poets.

"You don't have to be a writer and you don't have to be a poet," Hicks said. "Find a poem that you love and come and read it and let's have some fun with poetry."

Hicks said she'll be posting a poem a day on the Los Gatos Poet Laureate Facebook page during the month of April as well as photos of the new Los Gatos Library construction.
