Happy 56th Birthday, Monte Sereno!

Youth Commission will be hosting a free ice cream social tonight 6-7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 18041 Saratoga-Los Gatos Rd.

The City of Monte Sereno will be celebrating its 56th anniversary of incorporation today with a free ice cream social hosted by the Monte Sereno Youth Commission 6-7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 18041 Saratoga-Los Gatos Rd.

According to Monte Sereno Mayor Curtis Rogers the small residential-only Monte Sereno, with a population of about 4,000 people, was founded May 14, 1957.

Rogers invited everyone to the festivities. "We want all our residents and our neighbors in the suburbs of Monte Sereno to join us," Rogers said. "Los Gatos, Saratoga and Campbell residents are all welcome."

According to the city's website, Monte Sereno is about 1.56 square miles located in the southwestern portion of Santa Clara County at the base of the Santa Cruz mountains between Saratoga and Los Gatos.

A few of the city's points of interest are the home in which American author John Steinbeck wrote the Grapes of Wrath, and the site of the Billy Jones Rail Road, according to its website.

Asked how Monte Sereno is doing these days, Rogers said, "It's great ... other than a few bumps on the road, it's been a great place to live. I've loved living here. It's a great community."
