Eyesore of the Week: Graffiti on Vasona Dam Wall Cleaned up

Santa Clara Valley Water District workers paint over problem spot for agency.

The east wall of the Vasona Dam on the north side of Vasona Reservoir that had been spray-painted with blue graffiti characters has been cleaned up.

Two Santa Clara Valley Water District workers spent about two hours—including travel to and from the dam—painting over the ugly markings Monday afternoon.

The problem spot was discovered April 11 and featured in this column on Monday, a week later.

According to district spokesman Marty Grimes, the dam walls have become a magnet for vandals who like to deface the area. The agency has had to cover graffiti at that location five times during the last three years, Grimes said.

It's not known yet how much the cleanup will end up costing taxpayers, Grimes said, adding that district crews also paint over a lot of graffiti every year at other locations and remove tons of trash from creeks.
