23rd Citizenship Day of Santa Clara County

WHAT:

The 23rd Citizenship Day of Santa Clara County offers legal permanent residents an opportunity in 2012 not only to take advantage of free citizenship application assistance but to become a citizen and vote by November 2012.  It is an opportune time to apply for citizenship because of the speedy processing time in San Jose.  This unique event also provides information on the eligibility requirements and benefits of US citizenship.

Santa Clara County Citizenship Collaborative, including: Services, Immigrant Rights and Education Network (SIREN); the Center for Employment Training (CET); the Asian Law Alliance (ALA); Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County (CCSJ); Sacred Heart Community Services (SHCS) and Immigrant Relations and Integration Services (IRIS) of Santa Clara County Office of Human Relations.

WHY:

There are still about 193,000 legal residents who are eligible but have not naturalizedin Santa Clara County.  The mission of the Santa Clara County Citizenship Collaborative is to empower and protect all eligible residents.  Since its inception in 1997, more than 127,000 individuals interested in obtaining U.S. citizenship have received information and assistance. In this special election year, we also offer information on how low-income immigrants can make the application process affordable.
