I ride BART regularly, both to The City and to Oakland Airport. I have never felt unsafe on BART or any public transportation, but then I grew up riding the Muni nearly everywhere I went in The City.

I was taking BART regularly for a while but decided the hassle of getting a parking spot and the stench of the trains wasn't worth it anymore and started driving myself instead. There are always sketchy people, lame dudes with their headphones on rapping out loud and reeking of POT... I have a video of a douchebag with his headphones on using his cell phone as a mic while he sings some really awful heavy metal song. He was so out of it he didn't even know I was getting it on video. I'll use BART to get to the Coliseum for shows and maybe to SF on occasion but that's it for me.
