Are You Running for Los Gatos Town Council?

Two open seats give local residents an opportunity to perform their civic duty and serve their community for four years on the legislative body.

The Town of Los Gatos is announcing the opening of the nomination period for applicants for the upcoming general municipal election Nov. 6, 2012.

Two four-year term Council member positions are up for grabs.

Los Gatos Mayor Steve Rice's term ends at the end of the year as well as Vice Mayor Barbara Spector's.

So far, the women are the only ones who have come forward to run. If no other candidates step forward, there is no election.

Those interested may obtain information from the Los Gatos Clerk Department, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Town Hall, 110 East Main St.

The town requires those who wish to obtain nomination forms to make an appointment with Mazarin A. Vakharia, the town’s election official, who can be contacted at MVakharia@LosGatosCa.gov or at 408-354-6880.

Applicants must be present to receive the necessary documents and instructions and they must be Los Gatos residents and registered voters.

A filing fee of $25 is required when filing nomination papers; additional costs will be levied for candidate statements and additional translation, as required by law.

The nomination period opens on Monday, July 16, 2012 and closes Friday, Aug. 10.

LOL, Mike. I totally would if I was retired in my '70s and lived in this gorgeous town that I've come to love so very much! What about you? You would totally have fun with Vice Mayor Spector and Commissioner Jensen. These women are super intelligent and capable and would love the challenge!

We are lucky to have two outstanding women with the experience needed to guide our Town Council running in the upcoming election. Cudos to Vice Mayor Barbara Spector and Planning Commissioner Marcia Jensen.
