Vandals Still Misbehaving in Los Gatos

Eight incidents of vandalism are reported between July 1-9, according to police.

Despite a police crackdown in April and May, vandals are still wreaking havoc in town, with local residents and users of the Los Gatos Creek Trail reporting graffiti and other nuisances.

The latest batch of crime blotters for the beginning of July show eight incidents between July 1-9.

  • 12:03 p.m. July 1, University Avenue: A business' window is vandalized
  • 4:20 p.m. July 1, Pine Wood Lane, online report is made
  • 1:50 a.m. July 2, Elm Wood Court, no details given
  • 8:49 a.m. July 6, El Rancho Avenue: no details given
  • 12:49 p.m. July 7, Millbrae Lane: online report is made
  • 9:40 a.m. July 8, Granada Way: no details given
  • 9:47 a.m. July 8, Bel Blossom Way: no details given
  • 3:30 p.m. July 9, So. Santa Cruz Avenue: online report is made

The afternoon of  June 30, at about 5 p.m., vandals struck at Los Gatos High School stealing something from the pool area and causing damages, according to police.

The late June incidents are as follows:
  • 12:24 p.m. June 27, at 55 Palm Ave.
  • 2:21 a.m. June 29, at 16387 Englewood Ave., a 19-year-old man was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of burglarizing vehicles.
  • 5:04 p.m. June 30, at 20 High School Court: A theft and vandalism was reported at the Los Gatos High School pool.

Large windows at three retailers were broken with projectiles causing approximately between $5,000 and $10,000 in damage at 1:53 a.m. June 16 on No. Santa Cruz Avenue. That same day in the morning, at around 11:12 a.m., unknown suspect(s) also broke a West Main Street business' window.

In May, Los Gatos/Monte Sereno police Sgt. spokesman Michael D’Antonio said several of the crimes were still under investigation. One known graffiti vandal was arrested April 5, Andrew Medina Flores.

The other suspects were juveniles arrested for egg throwing, graffiti and destruction of property.

Los Gatos' Williams Sonoma gourmet foods and professional-quality cookware store, 122 No. Santa Cruz Ave., was vandalized at around noon Friday, May 10 when vandals shattered one of its large front windows with either a BB gun or a sling shot.

Los Gatos Patch reader Cyndi Kincaid-Sheehan asked on Facebook if the vandals are tagging the word "seen" in graffiti font?

"I've been seeing this all over LG Creek Trail and Oka [Road]," she posted.
