Tracking App on iPhone Helps Los Gatos Police, Victim Catch Thief

Anti-theft tracking device on phone helps cops and victims recover it, apprehend burglar.

A woman's smart decision to install a tracking app on her iPhone helped Los Gatos/Monte Sereno police arrest a man they claim took it along with her keys the evening of Nov. 27.

Soon after calling the cops to report the burglary from a business on Los Gatos Boulevard at about 8 p.m., the woman told police she had tracked it to an area near Garden Lane in Los Gatos.

Following her lead, police arrived at the location provided by the GPS signal trail and arrested the 23-year-old burglar, who was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.

Fortunately, the burglar was unaware that by leaving the phone on, the tracking device would work leading cops right to his location.

The burglar had a warrant for his arrest out of Los Angeles and was found in possession of a controlled substance, police said.
