SUV Driver Sought in Fatal Motorcycle Hit-N-Run on Hwy 101 in Morgan Hill

Crash killed man, 28, on Sunday about 6 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol is seeking the driver of an SUV who drove away after a collision that killed a motorcyclist Sunday on U.S. Highway 101 in Morgan Hill.

The motorcyclist who died in the collision was identified today as 28-year-old Julio Rodriguez, a Morgan Hill resident, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

At about 6 p.m. Sunday, Rodriguez was riding a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle heading north in the second lane of Highway 101 north of the Dunne Avenue exit, CHP officials said.

Rodriguez then entered the far left lane and collided with the right side of a 2004 Nissan Titan pickup truck, which caused him and his motorcycle to crash into the rear of a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck in the second lane, according to the CHP.

The motorcycle continued to move until coming to rest on the right shoulder of the highway, but Rodriguez had been ejected and began to tumble in the second lane, where he was possibly struck by a tan-colored SUV, according to the CHP.

The driver of the SUV, described as a heavy-set Hispanic man aged 35 to 40, drove away, CHP officials said.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene while the drivers of the Nissan and GMC were not injured, according to the CHP, which is continuing to investigate the crash.
