Several Injured When Car Crashes into Home on Los Gatos-San Jose Border

Update: 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24: Residents who live near the scene of a serious two-car traffic collision this afternoon in the 5400 block of Leigh Avenue are reporting the drivers involved were 18 and were racing heading south on the street.

"I witnessed a head-on collision here not that long ago ... Maybe time for San Jose to look at stepping up patrols," said Los Gatos Patch reader and contributor Dan Cuschieri, who took photos and video of the accident, which are posted with this story.

A neighbor at the scene said one of the cars involved had a high school parking pass, Cuschieri said.

Just before 4 p.m. a silver BMW 7 series crashed into the kitchen of the home and seemed to have gone partially through the front living room, he said. "I heard a mother and a child in house were injured," he said of the five people who were injured.

Update: 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 24: A serious traffic collision occurred this afternoon before 4 p.m. when a vehicle crashed into a house on the 5400 block of Leigh Avenue in West San Jose on the Los Gatos border.

Officers located a BMW inside the house and few people with injuries, according to San Jose police spokesman Albert Morales.

Four people were transported to an area hospital and are being treated for their injuries, he said.

One person is suffering from life threatening injuries at this time. The status of the other three people transported to the hospital is not known at this time, he said in a media advisory about the accident. 

The circumstances of the collision are under investigation at this time, he added.

Residents who live in the 5400 block of Leigh Avenue in the San Jose-Los Gatos border are reporting a vehicle crashed into a home causing several injuries this afternoon.

Los Gatos Patch reader Dan Cuschieri said several Santa Clara County firetrucks, EMTs, police officers and even helicopters are at the scene.

Cuschieri said his neighbors were posting information about the tragic wreck on the private social neighborhood network Nextdoor.
