School Burglar Arrested

Investigators arrested Jaime Mendoza in his Watsonville home Friday morning.

Santa Cruz Sheriff's investigators made an arrest on Friday related to multiple school burglaries across the county last week.

At 9 a.m., investigators arrested Jaime Mendoza, 31, at his Watsonville home after it was determined that he was responsible for the . 

According to Sheriff's Deputy April Skalland, Mendoza was charged with two counts of felony burglary, was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail and had bail set at $25,000.

"Mar Vista Elementary School’s library window was smashed to gain entry and the suspect tried to steal numerous computers," Skalland said last week. "The computers were chained together and the suspect was unable to steal anything, but there was considerable damage that occurred during the attempt to steal the computers."

At Live Oak Elementary, a computer and a printer were stolen from the staff lounge, and other parts of the school were attempted to be entered as well.

Glad they caught this jerk. People who rob from schools are a special kind of scum. Our schools are already over-pressed by budget cuts, stealing from from them is like pouring salt in the wound.
