Residents Encouraged to Sign Up for Personal Emergency Preparedness Class

Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police partner with Santa Clara County Fire to participate in West Valley PEP training program.

After a major earthquake or other disaster, it's anticipated that community public safety resources and critical infrastructure will be overwhelmed by the event, so residents will need to be self sufficient for at least 72 hours after the disaster.

To help the local community be prepared, a West Valley Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) training program has been created and it will offer its first free class in Los Gatos 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, June 4, at the , Levy Family Campus/Yavneh Day School, 14855 Oka Rd., said Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police spokesman Sgt. Kerry Harris.

The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno emergency management team is working hard to prepare area residents and businesses to that three-day standard by providing a variety of emergency preparedness training events, Harris said.

“With the fiscal difficulties facing local government, we are continually looking for ways to provide outstanding service and still be able to trim our budgets. One such way that we’re doing that here in Los Gatos and Monte Sereno, is to partner with theto provide a regional approach to emergency preparedness training,” Harris said.

That regional approach has resulted in the creation of the new West Valley PEP training program, Harris explained.

PEP presentations will take place in Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, Cupertino and Campbell throughout the year, primarily for those who reside or work in those cities, he added.
