A suspect sketch was released this afternoon of a man wanted in connection with a possible "knockout game" assault in Los Gatos on Monday.

At about 4:30 p.m. Jan. 6, Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police responded to a call of an assault and battery in the 14000 block of Blossom Hill Road and found a woman had been struck in the face by an unknown suspect who fled the scene on foot.

Since the incident, investigators have continued to work on the case and follow up on leads being developed, police sources said.

That information has helped investigators develop a composite sketch of the suspect described as an African American adult in his early to mid-20s, standing 5-foot-9 to 6-feet tall with a slender build and short brown hair.

The suspect was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap backwards. He remains at large, police said.

Los Gatos residents are asking police if the incident is related to a recent phenomenon known as the "knockout game," where assailants attempt to knock out unsuspecting victims with a single sucker punch for amusement purposes.

The department said it was releasing the sketch with the hope that the public would assist in apprehending the suspect or with additional leads or information about the assault or the assailant.

The victim was a mother dropping off her child at Dance Attack! studio in Los Gatos shortly before 4 p.m. and the assault took place in the parking lot of the Harwood Shopping Center, according to police.

The incident is being investigated as an assault/battery although it has "similar characteristics" to the sick and violent so-called "knockout game" phenomenon, police spokesman Sgt. Clinton Tada said.

Police said there is no additional information at this time about the crime's motive.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the LGMSPD at 408-354-8600.

Martial arts and self defense classes are great, but not even Martial arts is going to help you when someone cold cocks you! They need to start catching these thugs and putting them away for a very long time, he could have killed her, she could have sustained brain damage not to mention the psychological scar this could leave.

Here is the problem, women often don't want to appear rude or offensive, so we smile at strangers approaching us, and hope they are safe, but it is this behavior that endangers us. Cross the street if someone is walking toward you, put your hand out in front of you and say stop to anyone approaching you with in five feet of your personal space as you enter your car. If you are a decent man, you won't be offended by this. If you are a criminal you will not want the attention. Be cautious as you walk in parking lots, where we are often on our cell phones, carrying bags, and dangling our keys in our other hand. Look around you, walk purposely, and make eye contact. If these cowards are low enough to sucker punch a 78 year old woman (New York 1/10) and a mother, after dropping off her child at dance (Los Gatos) then it's time be assertive, brave, and not to worry about some strangers feelings when you are looking out for your own safety.

My brother was the victim of the "Knockout Game" on Sunday night, 4/6/14, while waiting at a RedBox in San Jose on Bascom Ave and Southwest Expy. The guy just walked out of 7-11 and punched him full force in the face three times. He's having to go into surgery tomorrow to have his jaw wired shut for four weeks. PLEASE SHARE this post so we can catch these people since the female who was with the suspect has some unique tattoos on her upper right breast and also one running down the back of her right arm. If anyone has information please contact SJPD at 408-277-8900 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 408-947-STOP / SVCrimeStoppers.org or email CatchThisSOB@yahoo.com.
