Updated: Man Accused of Punching, Strangling Woman in Los Gatos

Violent assault takes place at a Creekside Village home on March 7.

Update: 1 p.m. Friday, March 15: A 40-year-old woman, who was violently beaten in Los Gatos early this month, was at her home when the assault took place early morning March 7, police said this afternoon.

According to Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Sgt. spokesman Michael D'Antonio, the beating took place at about 2 a.m. at the woman's Creekside Village Drive home in Los Gatos.

She suffered non-life threatening injuries that required no hospitalization, he said, adding that her allleged attacker, John Trevor Maines, 44, of Portola Valley, was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail for felony domestic violence.

Maines could face additional charges as determined by the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, Sgt. D'Antonio said.

A person who willfully inflicts upon a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, former cohabitant, or mother or father of his or her child corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition is guilty of a felony, according to the California penal code.

If convicted, Maines could be sentenced to state prison for two, three, or four years, or the county jail for not more than one year, or by a fine of up to $6,000, or by both that fine and imprisonment.

A 44-year-old man is facing possible battery and assault charges after Los Gatos Monte Sereno police say he violently assaulted a woman earlier this month.

John Trevor Maines was arrested the morning of March 7 at a Creekside Village Drive residence in Los Gatos.

According to a police report, the woman was strangled, punched and had her hair pulled.

The woman fled from the home that morning and called police at about 8:38 a.m.

The assault is said to have taken place between 2 a.m. and 8:34 a.m. March 7.

Maines was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on battery and assault/domestic violence charges.
