A bicyclist vs. car accident early this month on Blossom Hill Road is a perfect reminder to motorists of right-of-way violations made when turning into a rider's path, Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police said this week.
On July 4, at 9:50 a.m., Los Gatos resident Dale Ferrerio was riding his bicycle westbound on Blossom Hill Road, near , when Santa Cruz resident Wayne Kwang Kim, driving eastbound on Blossom Hill Road, made a left-hand-turn into the park's driveway striking Ferrerio, according to police.
The turn took place in front of Ferrerio, which caused him to crash into Kwang Kim's beige Honda Accord, said Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police Sgt. Kerry Harris.
Ferrerio suffered moderate injuries and was treated and released at the scene, Harris said. He declined to be transported to the hospital, he added.
It was determined that the motorist was at fault for violating the bicyclist's right of way, Harris said.
"We urge motorists to drive with caution and be watchful for bicyclists because this sort of right-of-way violation happens far too often," Harris noted.
