Police Give 43 DUIs on Sunday Through 'Avoid the 13' Holiday Weekend Campaign
Total number of arrests in Santa Clara County since Friday is 107, with only 1 in Los Gatos.
Police said they had made “a significant number of DUI arrests” on the third day of a Santa Clara County DUI crackdown campaign. On Sunday, they arrested 43 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
From midnight Friday through midnight Sunday, there were a total of 107 DUI arrests, with one in Los Gatos on Friday. They were given by local routine enforcement and special Avoid the 13 DUI enforcements, named for the number of participating agencies. The number is up from 72 DUI arrests that occurred last year during the same 72-hour period, according to the Santa Clara Sheriff's Office.
On Monday, extra DUI saturation patrols were employed in the cities of Milpitas, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Altos Hills and San Jose.
Funding that pays for the overtime shifts for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
