Update: 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14: A 70-year-old Cupertino man who was reported missing Sunday
morning has been located and is being evaluated at a hospital, city and Santa
Clara County sheriff's office officials said today.
Ba Minh Lu, who is in the first stages of dementia, had not been
heard from since he left his home on Loree Avenue around 11 a.m. Sunday to
take a walk, sheriff's office spokesman Kurtis Stenderup said.
The sheriff's office had scoured the area for Lu using tracking
dogs but been unable to locate him. San Jose police also assisted in the
search using a helicopter.
Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies are looking for a
70-year-old Cupertino man suffering from the early stages of dementia who was
reported missing Sunday morning.
Ba Minh Lu has not been heard from since he left his home in the
18000 block of Loree Avenue at 11 a.m. Sunday to take a walk, spokesman Sgt.
Kurtis Stenderup said.
Lu usually goes for walks in the neighborhood with his wife, but
on Sunday he began walking while his wife was in the shower, Stenderup said.
His wife notified the sheriff's office at about 2:30 p.m. after he
failed to come home, Stenderup said.
Lu is described as Vietnamese, 5 feet 1 inch tall and 125 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hat and shorts, blue-and-white tennis
shoes, and was carrying a long walking stick, Stenderup said.
He did not have a cellphone or cash with him, Stenderup said.
The sheriff's search-and-rescue team scoured the area for Lu using
tracking dogs but was not able to locate him, Stenderup said.
The San Jose Police Department also used a helicopter to search
for Lu on Sunday without success.
