Man Arrested in Downtown Los Gatos With Loaded Gun, Drugs

Officers find a loaded Jenkins special model J-22 .22 caliber pistol inside suspect's Ford pickup truck, along with drugs, paraphernalia.

An armed 30-year-old Fremont man was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail this month in the downtown area after Los Gatos Monte Sereno police stopped him for a traffic stop.

Michael Carlos Gonsalves was taken into custody at about 1 a.m. Feb. 13 at North Santa Cruz and Almendra avenues with a loaded Jenkins special model J-22 .22 caliber pistol, according to police.

Gonsalves, who was driving a 2001 Ford pickup truck, lacked a weapon's permit and was found to also be in possession and under the influence of a controlled substance, said Los Gatos Monte Sereno police Sgt. spokesman Kerry Harris.

He was also charged with being in unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and being under the influence of a controlled substance while in the unlawful possession of the weapon.

Gonsalves faces additional charges of being in possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license, according to police.

It's not known what Gonsalves was doing in Los Gatos, Sgt. Harris said.

Amazing how a "Stock photo of a black gun" is posted for the world to see here, instead of the photo of the actual gun. No bias here. In case anyone is asking, you can't by a Jenkins at Templar.

Wow. I'm glad this guy is off the streets. Hats off to the police who are willing to risk their lives to even approach someone who is under the influence, carrying a loaded weapon, and was probably desperate because he knew he had drugs on him.

You are pathetic!! You whine about a photo instead on focusing on the actual news. Just be thankful Patch gets you the stories no one else is covering. And BTW, no no one is asking where you can buy this gun!!!

Actually it's a Jennings - not Jenkins.

I agree with Brian Hickman, great job LG/MS Poice getting this person off the street before they found an opportunity to hurt someone. I believe that's what we should we focusing on here not the other bullshit of what the gun looks like, etc.

We have had a number of armed robberies of homes and businesses in the last year and so it should not be surprising when people have guns in their cars. This gun is a "Satuday night" special, like $25 on the used market. It is useless as a target gun; is not accurate. Not good for self defense; not reliable. But ideal for criminals to intimidate with. Used to be made in California. Using fear mongering art is propoganda and a news organization should not be using it, especially when a real photo can be had on the internet in a matter of seconds. But not surprising, since the Patch has shown its bias from the beginning.

Actually the second picture used is accurate.

The Patch covers what ever is the latest news! Whatever the other new papers, or news stations are covering. You can google search any of her articles, and you will similar articles. It's not all that "special".

I, for one, have to say that Sheila is getting better, in regards to her firearm related reporting. I believe she has actually taken some time to get some facts, something others should emulate. No clue what airsoft handgun the first thing is, but the stainless firearm is pretty accurate to the reporting.

Good catch Jess. Your are correct. Which goes directly to my point: They got the name of the gun wrong and the got the picture of the gun wrong...what else did they get wrong? As for MIchaelJ, Wow! You are happy the patch is covering the story, yet it appears you don't care about the truth of the story? As for where it might be purchased, well we all know there have been a lot of articles and discussion in the patch and town meetings about all the gun violence and how it doesn't belong in LG. Seems relevant to me. Yes the police did there job well and everyone should be happy they did.

CJ Butcher, Sgt. Harris wrote in an email interview about the police report that the weapon was a "Jenkins" ... this is not our error, but a source's error, which happens and we're happy to correct. The stock photo was simply that, a Getty image that looked better than the Wikipedia photo of the Jennings pistol. We stand by the rest of the facts in the post, which come from a police report. Thanks for reading.

If you let me have Mr/Mrs. God's address I shall write to them and thank them personally.

"It's not known what Gonsalves was doing in Los Gatos" He was probably looking for a medical marijuana delivery "victim" to rob.
