Man Arrested in Downtown Los Gatos With Loaded Gun, Drugs

Officers find a loaded Jenkins special model J-22 .22 caliber pistol inside suspect's Ford pickup truck, along with drugs, paraphernalia.

An armed 30-year-old Fremont man was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail this month in the downtown area after Los Gatos Monte Sereno police stopped him for a traffic stop.

Michael Carlos Gonsalves was taken into custody at about 1 a.m. Feb. 13 at North Santa Cruz and Almendra avenues with a loaded Jenkins special model J-22 .22 caliber pistol, according to police.

Gonsalves, who was driving a 2001 Ford pickup truck, lacked a weapon's permit and was found to also be in possession and under the influence of a controlled substance, said Los Gatos Monte Sereno police Sgt. spokesman Kerry Harris.

He was also charged with being in unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and being under the influence of a controlled substance while in the unlawful possession of the weapon.

Gonsalves faces additional charges of being in possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license, according to police.

It's not known what Gonsalves was doing in Los Gatos, Sgt. Harris said.
