The dispatcher was able to obtain the GPS coordinates from Terrill’s cell phone, despite its weak signal and low battery, the release stated.

Deputies and search and rescue personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon the deputies' arrival they utilized their sirens and horns to locate Terrill at 9 p.m. She was in good health and was provided a ride back to her vehicle.

Sheriff's deputies reminded hikers to tell family and friends where they are hiking, when they expect to return, bring appropriate equipment and clothing.

A cell phone, map or GPS is also helpful as well as keeping in mind that not all rural areas have cell phone coverage, and cell phone batteries need to be fully charged, the release added.
