The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office has requested an arrest warrant for a Los Gatos man in the burglary of a popular restaurant in the Soquel area reported on June 30, a deputy said Tuesday.
Deputies are seeking to arrest Roy Knox, 44, on suspicion of burglarizing $500 in server tip money and video surveillance equipment from Michael's on Main, Deputy Ryan Kennedy said.
Knox had been arrested on a separate burglary by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office on July 1 and deputies in that case contacted Santa Cruz deputies after finding evidence tracing Knox to the burglary at Michael's, Kennedy said.
Santa Cruz deputies requested the warrant for Knox's arrest after interviewing him in the Santa Clara County Jail in San Jose where he is being held, Kennedy said.
At 7:20 a.m. on June 30, Santa Cruz sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Michael's at 2591 S. Main St in the unincorporated Soquel district on a reported burglary.
Someone had forced their way through a door and stolen about $500 in tip money saved for employees from an unlocked box.
The business' surveillance equipment was also taken, possibly to remove any video evidence of the burglary, according to Kennedy.
Michael's, which opened in 2001, has a private wine cellar room that seats 18 customers, a patio for dining that overlooks Soquel Creek and offers live music six nights a week, according to the eatery's website.
