Los Gatos Police Motorcycle Struck While Officer Issues Ticket

How often does a cop's vehicle get hit in the line of duty? It happened in town on June 19.

Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police traffic motorcycle officer Mario Carrizosa was in for a big surprise the afternoon of June 19.

While making an enforcement stop, his motorcycle was struck by the driver of a gray Ford SUV backing out of her parking space at U-Save Liquors on Los Gatos Boulevard.

The accident happened at 1:40 p.m., when Carrizosa was issuing a traffic citation to another driver while in the parking lot of the store, 16498 Los Gatos Blvd.

The woman, who was not the driver getting cited, had been shopping at the store, entered her vehicle and backed directly into the police motorcycle, said Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police Sgt. Kerry Harris.

The motorcycle was knocked over and sustained minor damage and, fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of the accident, Harris added.

"As always, the police department asks motorists to be careful in their vehicle operation around law enforcement personnel and vehicles," Harris said after explaining the accident, which Los Gatos Patch discovered looking at the agency's police blotter.

Harris also said the woman was not cited since the incident was an accident.
