Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Participates in Operation Safe Passage

Week-long effort targets speeding, jaywalking and cyclists without helmets, other vehicle code violations around local schools.

The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department and other Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies are participating this week in Operation Safe Passage, aimed at making school zones safer for children and the adults who accompany them.

Patrol officers will be educating the community Sept. 17-21 about traffic safety and making sure all vehicle code rules are strictly enforced, according to a press release issued by the LGMSPD.

Enforcement teams will be concentrating on speeding, jaywalking, cyclists without helmets, improper car seat usage and other traffic violations around schools, according to the release.

Officers will also be giving out rewards to kids who properly use their helmets while riding bicycles, scooters, and skateboards.

The LGMSPD has had a long running helmet education program that consists of giving incentive coupons to youth who properly wear their protective headgear.
