Police Report Commercial Burglaries in Los Gatos

Two incidents take place in town July 18-19.

Two commercial burglaries in Los Gatos since last Thursday confirm what police officials in the South Bay have been saying all along—business break-ins are on the rise.

While vehicle theft seems to be the crime of choice, the latest batch of commercial burglaries in town began the morning of July 18 on Los Gatos Boulevard when one business was targeted, according to police records.

The next day, July 19, at 12:40 p.m., a business on North Santa Cruz Avenue was burglarized. Police are still investigating this incident, according to a report.

The most worrisome occurrence took place at about 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21 at the Jewish Community Center, 14855 Oka Rd.

Officers responded to the facility on a report of an alarm and discovered a tampered perimeter wire.

Patrons told Los Gatos/Monte Sereno police they observed a suspicious subject asking questions about the JCC's security, but left the area prior to police arrival, according to a report.

Center spokeswoman Jenny Green said the JCC's fence alarm around the field in back of the facility went off.

"The police came and they found that it appeared someone had pulled a perimeter wire. The wire was not cut, just pulled. Nobody actually entered the campus or stole anything," Green said.
