Speeders, Watch Out: Los Gatos Installs Traffic Counters Around Busy Roads

Metro Count Vehicle Classifier System helps town contractor prepare traffic survey.

Driving down Main Street in downtown Los Gatos you feel them ... a bump, bump ... two perfectly aligned black plastic ropes that town officials say will help them with their traffic survey due in the next two weeks.

According to Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Assistant Director and town engineer Kevin Rohani, the traffic counters are being used by the town's contractor, the Traffic Data Systems Company, to evaluate how many vehicles are driving along certain roads, or in certain areas.

The information will then be turned over to the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department for analysis and speed enforcement, Rohani said.

The traffic counters are installed by the contractor, which removes them within two weeks, Rohani explained.

The devices, attached to a "Metro Count Vehicle Classifier System" box, have been placed across many town streets, Rohani said.

The traffic survey will be completed in two weeks, Rohani said.

The LGMSPD will have the traffic survey done by the end of December, he added.

Editor's note: This post will be updated as soon as accurate speed limits for Main Street, North Santa Cruz Avenue and other busy downtown Los Gatos roads can be obtained from local police.
