Los Gatos Cops Want Your Drugs

Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Service Center, 41 Miles Ave. in Los Gatos.

The Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department, West Valley Clean Water Program and Community Against Substance Abuse are hosting a prescription drug disposal drop-off and recycling event at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Service Center, 41 Miles Ave.

Non-residents of Los Gatos and Monte Sereno are also welcome to get rid of their unused over-the-counter and prescription substances at the event, held in conjunction with many others across the state in honor of Red Ribbon Week.

Sharps, such as needles, will not be accepted during the drive-through event where organizers say no questions will be asked and no paperwork will be required.

Results from a recent national survey showed that prescription drug abuse by teens is up 33 percent since 2008. Part of the solution is disposing of unused or expired medications properly, CASA said on its website promoting the event.

At the same event, the West Valley Clean Water Program will collect glass thermometers, household batteries, cell phones, and eyeglasses for recycling. You can exchange your old glass thermometer for a FREE new thermometer.
